Changing Our Community, One House at a Time.
At Hope 101 Ministry, we only accept participants who exhibit the drive it takes to carve out a new path forward. Our program becomes a very personal and intentional experience for a smaller number of participants. Our ministry is designed to help the whole person and not just their un-homed condition. Just like you, the people we are assisting have names, life stories, hopes and aspirations for their future. Their human condition doesn’t end when their housing does. They remain just like you, except for a moment in time when they find themselves homeless, which is a very personal condition indeed.
Remember, homelessness isn’t someone else’s issue; it personally touches the entire community in one way or another. Whether you see it or not, it exists in your neighborhood and brings with it a ripple effect that flows through our county. It impacts our schools, healthcare resources, social services, workforce, and tax dollars. As Hope 101 Ministry continues to advocate for systemic solutions to a community problem, there is an enduring and wide-reaching victory every time we help a single member of our community. Our program provides transitional housing, meals, faith, financial education and an individualized support program designed around the person we are partnering with.
smart goal management
The SMART framework empowers our case managers to partner with our participants to establish practical and achievable goals by focusing on specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound targets.
Financial Education and Credit improvement
We use the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau financial curriculum and pair it with expert credit counseling services from collaborating financial institutions. Because credit affects almost every aspect of life—from renting an apartment and buying a home to securing a loan and even landing a job, it is a key building block to housing stability.
case management
Case management is an in-home service in which we meet with clients to provide direct, personalized one-on-one support to improve a comprehensive set of outcomes related to employment, education, housing, health, and public benefit receipt.
budgeting at the kitchen table
Budgeting at the kitchen table lets the family work together on spending habits, track their expenses, and have those tough conversations. In addition to their own financial goals, we require that they save for the deposit needed for permanent housing. The goal is to develop good habits to increase the probability of maintaining stable housing in the future.
Transitional Housing Program
This program provides the first step towards housing stability. It requires earned income and is open to Newaygo County residents. Participants pay a weekly program fee that includes case management, housing, utilities, internet and food assistance. Participants can remain in this program for up to one year.
Stable Housing Program
Participants who are successful in our Transitional program are eligible to progress to this lease-based housing option, as available through Hope 101. that can last for up to two years. During that time, an intensive effort is made to increase savings and improve credit so that the participant can be competitive in the search for private long-term rental options, or even home ownership.
It’s Personal With Us
Our Mission reflects our commitment to support the whole person in a way that is unique to the individual’s needs. Our Housing Programs have intense requirements that include weekly case management support to facilitate consistent progress on a participant’s personal SMART goal plan (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound). Our program also includes participating in a weekly financial money management and budgeting curriculum with each participant, including reviewing bank statements, expenditure receipts every week and working with a credit counselor at Independent Bank. We reward goal achievement, navigate wrap around services and offer mentor support for those who need it. We have a personalized support structure in place, but ultimately the participant is responsible for changing their own path.
Our resources are finite, and we have a limited number of housing units that we own or manage. In order to remain housed, meaningful progress has to be achieved and the following base requirements must be met:
Some of our housing options.
We currently own or operate nine fully furnished housing units that are a benefit of the enrollment in either our Transitional or Stable housing programs.
